July 8th, 2009
This morning I left my house and saddled up my horse Thunder. I road to Graan's Cave through the Cresent Forest and dismounted to find a fox just outside the cave struggling in a trap. It is hard to express how angry I was, people were hunting on our land and setting up traps. As I knelt beside the victim it squirmed just making the situation worse. I eventually worked the clamp open and the fox attempted to run away but apparently it must have been trapped for a long while and its both hind legs were torn up so bad that it only made it a couple yards away from me before it collapsed. So I went to it and picked it up my hand tight around its muzzel so it wouldn't bite and road back to the old cottage with the helpless creature in my arms. At first it tried to get away but after a mile or so it stopped squirming and lay still. My father and grandfather and father before him all never took to hunting and I find pride in that. Our land is swarming with deer and rabits, foxes, birds, and so many more wild creatures. My father never lets people hunt on our land and I'm glad of it, but there still are the times when people come to hunt anyway. I reached home and my father was out so I cleaned the foxes wound(wounds I should say) and made it a little bed and gave it some food. My parents came home and in a few minutes I'll be heading out to town with my father to spread the word that people are hunting illegally on our land and then we'll go into the woods to look for more traps. Right now the ol' fox who I named Sebastian is laying beside me. I will not be able to write every day, make a note of that!
